Astro Fund Norfolk walk for brain tumours: Sunday October 11th 2009. This is the third time that this popular and successful event has taken place in the inspiring surroundings of Holkham Hall.  Katie Sheen of the Astro Fund for low grade gliomas advises: "We offer a choice of 1, 3, 6 and 10 mile circular walking routes to enable people of all ages and abilities to participate.  The shorter routes are on pavements suitable for wheelchairs and buggies – with the shortest route featuring children’s games at strategic points to help encourage the youngest participants on their way!  All miles will be donated to the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA) “Walk Around The World for Brain Tumours” initiative and funds raised under individual charity numbers will be the sole property of the charities to whom those funds are donated.  Event costs will be met by sponsorship under the Astro Fund and BT Buddies joint banner, and administration undertaken by our volunteer fundraisers." SSBTR walks. Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research (USA) will hold two walks this year - the inaugural Tucson Walk-A-Thon Saturday, 28 February and also the 8th Annual Phoenix Walk-A-Thon on 7th March. For more information visit their website. We wish them well.

The Liverpool (NSW, Australia) brain tumour support group supports the Awareness Week and will organise a walk as part of the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours.

8th Annual Kevin J. Mullin Memorial 5KRun/Walk will be held Sunday April 26, 2009 to support brain tumor research and awareness regarding brain tumors. The run will be held at Bishop Hartley High School  in Columbus, OH. The 16th Annual Angels Us Among US 5K and Family Fun Walk  will be held on April 25th 2009 on the Duke University Campus in Durham, North Carolina, USA. The event is attended by over 3,000 who run and walk in honor of our brain tumor survivors and in memory of loved ones who have taken the "journey".  Last year participating teams raised over $1,145,000 which goes directly to the support of The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke. The event is supported by a dedicated volunteer network with effectively all proceeds going directly to research and compassionate care At Duke.....there is Hope. Contact: ron_brinton@yahoo.com 
Lauren Martin from the Australian Genomics and Clinical Outcomes of Glioma (AGOG) project advises that AGOG will again be supporting and participating in the 2009 World Walk and International Brain Tumour Awareness Week. Last year the group organised a walk and barbecue on a beach near Perth.

The annual Meagan's Walk will take place on Mother's Day, 10 May, at Ontario Place, Toronto, Canada. This year's goal is to raise $400,000. A total of $1.4m has been raised over the years for brain tumor research. Dr Rakesh Jalali from the Brain Tumour Foundation of India advises that they will again be supporting the Awareness Week this year, with 2009 also representing the 10th anniversary of the Foundation.

The Michael Quinlan Brain Tumor Foundation (USA) will hold its 8th annual walk on 9 May 2009 and looks forward tpo contributing the waking mileage to the World Walk target. Cindy Rosser advises that "it's always the Saturday after the Kentucky Derby". This year's theme is "Journey to Hope".

The walk organised by the Andrew McCartney Trust Fund has been confirmed for Saturday 6 June and will again be around Lake Vyrnwy Powis Mid Wales (UK). They have pledged the miles walked to the World Walk target.

Kim Lachut advises that they will again be organising a "Walk the Walk" to raise funds for the American Brain Tumor Association on 28 June at UConn Alumni Center on the campus at Storrs and will donate the mileage covered to the World Walk target.

Tim Erickson from the Victorian Race Walking Club (Australia) advises that the Club will again donate race fees, donations and canteen fees from its events on 11 July to the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuroscience Foundation. The combined distances covered will be contributed to the World Walk target.

Susan Marshall from the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada advises that they will again be supporting the World Walk and International Brain Tumour Awareness Week. Mileage covered in the Foundation's annual Spring Sprint will be contributed to the World Walk total.

Kathryn Geyer advises that Team John Geyer will be walking in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life during the weekend 8-9 May and will be donating the combined mileage achieved to the World Walk target.

Meghan Kimball advises that the 6th Annual Glio-Blastoff 5K Run/Walk in memory of Denise Kimball will take place on 9 May and the mileage covered by the walkers will again be contributed to the World Walk target. Funds raised will go to the American Brain Tumor Association.

Chiltern Walk (Brain Tumour UK): Sunday 4 October, meeting at The Old Swan Pub, Swan Bottom, Bucks, HP16 9NU.  There will be three led groups, leaving at 2pm, 2.15pm and 2.30pm.  The walk is approximately 4.5 miles on clearly defined footpaths.  There's a very short distance on a steepish incline and only four styles.  Reckon on up to 2 hours (max) walking time and be prepared for muddy conditions if the weather is bad. Our target is to beat last year's magnificent total of 6,500 kms to be donated to the IBTA's Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours target.  Email kiki.connor@braintumouruk.org.uk  or call 01494 723561.


Alanah Bailey from the SESIAHS northern area in NSW (Australia) advises that her group will again be taking part in the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours, this time wearing a mascot of a "walking brain" drawn by the daughter of one of the nurses. Alanah may be contacted here.


Sue Steinmetz, the study coordinator at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center (USA), advises that their brain tumor awareness walk will be held on 10 October. Sue may be contacted here.


Stephanie Beckedorff advises that the 2nd Annual Barbara DiStase Memorial Walk will be held at the Community Park, Point Pleasant, New Jersey (USA), on 2 August. More information here.


Lori Silk of Dubois, Pennsylvania has been a steadfast supporter of the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours for several years and has let us know that she will once again be organising a 5K walk around Dubois City Park and Walkway on September 13th, 2009.  Best of luck Lori!


The 4th annual Kortney's Challenge 2 mile FUN run/walk takes place in Monmouth Park racetrack in Oceanport, NJ on August 30th. This event was begun after the death of 9 Year old Kortney Gillette who died of a brain stem glioma in 2006. The Kortney Rose Foundation raises awareness and money for pediatric brain tumor research. The mileage from Kortney's Challenge will be donated to the 2009 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours. The walk/run is a flat course made for any level of participant. Pete McLaughlin advises that the Dianne Moore Memorial Walk 2009 on the Gold Coast (Australia), will take place on 19 July. Pete may be contacted at 0422 784 885. Dianne was a co-founder of the original Gold Coast Brain Tumour Support Group.


The Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (UK) advises that they are promoting a special week of dedicated walking for the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours.  Their supporters are encouraged to "organise a sponsored walk in your area, any distance, anywhere, to raise awareness about brain tumours and donate mileage covered to the World Walk target of circling the earth five times at the Equator (125,000 miles or 200,000 kilometres)." Cindy Villarreal reports from Texas: "we will be having the 4th Annual Brain Tumor Walk in the Dallas Fort Worth, TX area on Saturday, November 7th.   Last year we had over 1000 people and raised over $220,000 for brain tumor research. The WALK is sponsored by the National Brain Tumor Society out of Boston, Massachusettes/San Francisco, CA.   www.braintumor.org I will be a volunteer again for the 3rd year. We also held the 2nd Annual Nick Gonzales Charity Golf Tournament this past May and grossed $28,000 from our golfers, silent/live auction and sponsorships. We were able to fund another $25,000 research grant through the National Brain Tumor Society in June and hope to double that next year! www.nickgonzalesfoundation.org (very basic site up there now during the building of a new website). Nick was my 29 year old son who I lost to a GBM Dec 2006."


Dr Laurie Dangler of "ROC on!" ("Run Over Cancer") has let us know that she and her team-mates are raring to go for the 2009 Columbus (Ohio, USA) Marathon on October 18th in which they will have some walkers doing a 5K.  Laurie has pledged the walking mileage achieved from this event to the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours.  Laurie, who is an anaplastic astrocytoma survivor, and her friends and colleagues did a great job of supporting the IBTA's activities last year and we wish them every success for the Columbus event in the autumn.  For further information about "ROC on" please see their website at http://www.roconnow.com/


Dr Ioannis Roussos Prindesis from Barcelona advises that his hospital (Hospital Universitari Sant Joan de Deu Esplugues de Llobregat- Barcelona) will have a brain tumour information stand on Thursday 5th November during the Awareness Week.


Things are happening in Scotland. Shanne McNamara advises that the Edinburgh Support Group is also planing another walk in 2009.


Dr Andre Pace from Italy advises: "We are planning the third edition of corrialmassimo per irene for the 18th October 2009, in connection with the run of the Fondo di gio Milan in the same day. We are also organizing a meeting for the 5-6 november 2009 (during the BT week) focusing on rehabilitation in oncology and particularly in BT patients."

Maureen Daniels from the Pencer Brain Tumor Centre in Canada advises that the mileage from their annual Head for a Cure walk will again be donated to the World Walk target.
Linda Aitken of the Adult Brain Cancer Support Association of South Australia advises that the group will hold a picnic on 1 November as part of the Awareness Week.
Natalya Jagger of BT Buddies is planning various displays during the International Brain Tumour Awareness Week. She has been given space at The Walton Centre in Liverpool, Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology and the NeuroSupport Centre in Liverpool (UK).  Natalya writes: "We are running walk/fundraising events there throughout the week so I intend to present basic information about brain tumours along with statistics, information on our websites, stories of hope from around the world and an area for information on surgery."  Natalya also plans to distribute from the displays the IBTA's booklet on the "First Documented, Modern-Day Brain Tumour Surgery for a Glioma" which took place in 1884.  This year is the 125th anniversary of this event.
Yorkshire brain tumour charity Andrea's Gift will hold their third Walk around the World for Brain Tumours in Leeds on Sunday 4th October 2009.  There will be two walks along the picturesque canal from Kirkstall, the first is a 10k from Kirkstall to Rodley and for those more ambitious you can do the 10 mile challenge and walk on to Apperly Bridge before turning around and heading back to Kirkstall.  For more information visit Andrea's Gift Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours Event.

In letting us know that the Dr Marnie Rose Foundation will be a supporting organisation for the World Walk and Awareness Week, Lanie Rose mentioned that they have so far raised $1,601,000 USD, of which $1,042,000 went to brain tumor research at M.D. Anderson. That is tremendous!

The Netherlands brain tumour patient support organisation hersentumor.nl plans to promote a new website for children with brain tumours during the Awareness Week.

Rosemary Wormington advises that the Worcestershire Brain Tumour Support Group (WBTSG) "... will be doing a 'Walk around the World' collecting miles for IBTA on Sunday 11th October at Worcestershire Woods Country Park.  We did it last year and it was a great success."

Carol Robertson, Fundraiser & Charity Development Manager for Andrea's Gift - Brain Tumour Research & Support (UK) has written about their forthcoming activity:  “Sunday 4th October 2009 we will walk either 10k or 10 miles along the Leeds Liverpool Canal, raising funds for Andreas Gift in this sponsored event. We shall once again join in the International Brain Tumour Alliance Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours event, coming together with organisations across the world to raise awareness of this disease.  This year, brain tumour charities and groups will attempt to walk around the world five times, covering a total of 125,000 miles or 200,000 kms. There will be a choice of distance, with everyone starting from Kirkstall, Leeds.  Those undertaking 10 miles will meet at the start point at 09:30 for a 10:00 start.  They will then walk a 5 mile route to Apperley Bridge before turning around and walking back to the start. Please let Carol know if you would like to take part and join in the Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours event, everyone welcome children and dogs in particular!”

During the IBTA's International Brain Tumour Awareness Week the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust (UK) in association with Brainwaves (Northern Ireland) will be holding a Brain Tumour Information Day in Leicester. The Information Day runs from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm and will cover a variety of topics of interest to brain tumour patients such as living with epilepsy, complementary therapies, neurosurgery and radiotherapy, strategies for coping with memory loss and personality changes, etc. For further information, email enquiries@sdbtt.co.uk or contact Sarah Smith on 0845 130 9733.
